Our oversight team

Our leadership team, known as Office Bearers, consists of Elders and Deacons as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–13. They serve the church through spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and practical ministry, seeking to honour Christ and support the congregation in its worship, fellowship, and witness.

1 Peter 5:1-3

The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock.

Pastor

Ian Wilson

Pastor Ian Wilson is a native of Coagh, having been in membership in Coagh Baptist Church before he was called into full-time service for the Lord.

Ian began his pastoral ministry in Grove Baptist Church [1997-2003] and subsequently has served as Pastor in the following churches, Saintfield Baptist [2003-2012] and Rathfriland Baptist [2012-2026] before returning to his home church to take up the pastoral role in February 2026.

Pastor Wilson has had the privilege of teaching and preaching the Word of God throughout much of Eastern Europe , Africa, India , South America and the USA.

Ian is married to Marcella and they have three grown up children Matthew, Abigail and Caleb and two grandchildren, Amos and Joy.

Elder

David Scott

I was born and grew up in East Belfast where, as a boy of 11 years of age, I trusted Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour, under the preaching of Evangelist Harold German in Ballyhackamore Gospel Hall. Subsequently, I was baptised in the Iron Hall Assembly, enjoying fellowship there for some years. A further 21 years were spent in fellowship and service within Brethren Assemblies. In 1988/1989, I became a member of Saintfield Baptist Church and, shortly afterwards, was invited to accept the pastorate – an office I held from January 1991 until June 1999.

In September 1999, in response to a call, I accepted the pastorate of Coagh Baptist Church – a position I continued in for six years full-time and one year part-time. During the period of my part-time work, I spent 22 months helping the Dunseverick Church. This involved two Sundays and two mid-week services per month. Following on from this, I assisted the Portrush Church on the basis of three Sundays and three mid-weeks per month.

I am thankful to the Lord for his keeping power and his ongoing faithfulness and to my wife for her sterling support. I appreciate the prayers of the Lord’s people in many of our churches.

Church Deacons

The role of our deacons is to serve the congregation with humility, integrity, and faithfulness, supporting the spiritual ministry of the church through practical service and godly leadership. In accordance with the qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:8–13, our deacons are men of good character who demonstrate a strong Christian testimony in their homes, workplaces, and church life. By caring for the church family and helping to meet the needs of the congregation, the deacons of Coagh Baptist Church play a vital role in promoting unity, encouraging fellowship, and enabling the church to fulfil its mission of glorifying God and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
